Notes

Key Characteristics

  • Leaves alternate, pinnate (3), rougly serrate with an acuminate tip, lighter on the underside and green above
  • Fruit is an aggregate of drupes
  • Shade intolerant
  • Twigs are red or purple with recurved spines and a glaucus bloom that forms a white cast that can be rubbed away (much less prickly than R. allegheniensis)
  • Sourced during a field lab in Fall 2011
