  • Twigs smooth, olive colored, striped with lenticels, usually with pairs of stipular spines borne at each node
  • Bark deeply furrowed into rounded, interlacing, scaly ridges
  • Clusters of thin legume-pods containing 4-8, small, brown seeds
  • Prefers sandy loamy sites, shade intolerant, clonal, insect pollinated
