Key Characteristics

  • Leaves alternate / clustered, simple, with small lobes, almost like large teeth, ovate
  • A shrub, usually very small
  • Fruit is a small acorn, ovoid, light tan, with a finely textured cup, similar to a china bowl in shape, but often difficult to locate
  • Reproduces by root suckers and found on xeric sites
