  • Leaf blade broadly ovate, abruptly acuminate; fine narrow teeth point away from the leaf; petioles with small glands near the blade base
  • Typically a clonal shrub
  • Terminal buds conical, sharp-pointed, appearing two-toned dark and pale brown with a conspicuous dark brown tip
  • Fruit a reddish purple, borne on a raceme
  • Bark smooth, dark brown
