Key Characteristics

  • Leaves alternate, simple, large with palmate veination, 3-5 lobed
  • Bark is cream colored or camoflage, photosynthetic
  • The sycamore-looking trees in the Diag are London planetrees which are more resistant to pollution
  • Fruit is a multiple of achenes
  • Twigs are very straight, cream colored and zig-zag shaped
  • Petioles cover the bud
  • Shade intolerant
  • Reproduces clonally by root collar sprouting and fragmentation
  • Found on levees of flood plain sites
  • Sourced during a field lab in Fall 2011
