Notes

Key Characteristics

  • Bark reddish gray, like melting wax
  • Fruit is a large cone, wide, squat, light colored under the scales with in tact basal scales, and deciduous armament
  • Needles are very long, crescent shaped, green, two per fascicle, don't snap when bent double
  • Trunk with lateral branches forming 90 degrees to the trunk
