Notes

Key Characteristics

  • Bark like silver dollars, peely
  • Fruit is a small cone with flat scales, brown, with round entire margins on the scales
  • Needles are short (about half the length of P. pungens), radially arranged, dark green, glaucous, pointed toward the twig apex, diamond shaped in cross section, borne on sterigmata
  • Found on a variety of sites, much more abundant than P. mariana, which is a bog species
