Notes
Key Characteristics
- Leaves are alternate, simple, fan shaped and borne in clusters on short spur shoots
- The tree is dioecious, the males are commonly planted in cities, the females are less so because they tend to smell bad
- Fruits have a pulp covered seed
- Shade intolerant
- Grows strongly excurrent unless open grown with horizontal lateral branches
