Key Characteristics

Leaves alternate, simple, cordate at the base with an acuminate tip and entire margins
Bark scaly and cinnamon red colored inside
Fruit a legume that is pointed at both ends (R. pseudoacacia is only pointed at one end)
Petioles enlarged at the base
Commonly found on second bottoms of floodplain sites
Twig dark with white flecks (lenticels), zig-zag shaped, lateral buds are sometimes paired
