Notes

Key Characteristics

  • Leaves alternate, simple, cordate at the base with an acuminate tip and entire margins
  • Bark scaly and cinnamon red colored inside
  • Fruit a legume that is pointed at both ends (R. pseudoacacia is only pointed at one end)
  • Petioles enlarged at the base
  • Commonly found on second bottoms of floodplain sites
  • Twig dark with white flecks (lenticels), zig-zag shaped, lateral buds are sometimes paired
