Key Characteristics

  • Leaves of short, spur shoots in 2s; 8-12 or more pairs of veins
  • Bark yellowish gray, exfoliating in horizontal strips, curled at edges
  • Fruit bracts with 3 ascending lobes, pubescent on back and edges
  • Twigs and buds with wintergreen taste and odor
