  • Fire intolerant and fire promoting by leaving flammable leaf litter and resinous twigs
  • Fruit is a shatter cone like other firs
  • Leaves are short, bright green needles, appearing two-ranked, soft, leaving circular leaf scars
  • Reproduces clonally by layering
  • Shade intolerant and situated in boreal sites
  • Twigs with lustrous buds that appear in threes
